Our Story

Forty nine years ago, Ruth Silverberg opened the doors to one of Toronto’s original consignment stores. A single mother of four children, she found herself sharing clothes within her circle of friends to maintain a professional image, without breaking the bank. A strong believer that quality clothing and key accessories instill confidence and empower women to be their best selves, she decided to carry this philosophy out on a larger scale. Second Nature Boutique was born.

Second Nature boasts two fabulous floors of high-end clothing, shoes, bags, and jewellery. Offering both new and gently used designer labels – at a fraction of the retail cost – Second Nature has something for everyone. Experienced stylists are always on hand to assist both shoppers and sellers, ensuring a positive and supportive experience at every visit. And frequent visits are encouraged, with new pieces arriving hourly.

Ruth’s daughter, Kary, now runs the store that her mother started years ago. Kary Dick, a fashion designer-turned-entrepreneur has stayed true to her mother’s original vision. A graduate of both fashion and business, Kary paired her education with her talents of trend forecasting, ingenuity, and continual forward thinking to undoubtedly keep Second Nature a continuing success. She oversees the boutique, always having Ruth’s vital philosophy in mind: shopping should always be a positive experience where service is just as important as the product. Second Nature remains a neighbourly space, continually supporting and encouraging women to live their best lives. As such, philanthropy is near and dear to the Second Nature family, supporting their community by hosting various annual fashion show fundraisers, sponsoring countless charitable events, and donating all unsold clothing to women’s shelters regularly. Whether looking to buy a new piece or sell something of your own, Second Nature Boutique is a credible and trusted source within the Toronto fashion scene.
